Wow, I have definitely lost track of time and have officially gone into panic mode. Application of sources - incomplete. Novella - incomplete and probably will never be completed. I don't know how it happened but after having such an enthusiastic start to this project, I kind of lost interest. I thought that writing a long short story would be fun but it ended up being frustrating and annoying. Every time I would try and sit down to write, my mind would go blank. Then, at the most inconvenient times, I would think of something really good to add to the story but once I had a chance to write it down, my idea would be gone. Another thing I think I did wrong was I tried to write everything perfectly and in the correct formatting as I went. This was a complete disaster because I got so bogged down with making sure it looked right that I would spend 3 hours writing and only have 1 page of usable writing. This leads me to my third issue. Deleting and re-writing sections of the story. Almost every time I opened up my novella document, I would read the last page or two that I had written. Then I would decide that I didn't like and spend the rest of the time changing and rewriting it. Basically, instead of having 20 pages of a novella. I had 20 versions of one page of a novella. Go figure!
I know now that this story was not meant to be finished. I have now been concentrating on my final report. I don't think I will have time to finish it. It is really unsatisfying to have planned out a good story and then not be able to write it. By the end of this week, I hope to be finished my final report and hand it in to my advisor.
